What are the expectations of Year 2?

Upon entering Year 2 we hope that children will be able to:

  • change their reading book independently

•  change independently for PE with the exception of top button and tie

•  write their first name and surname

•  stick sheets into their book neatly

•  recognise numbers 1-20 at least.

What will Year 2 be learning this year?

TERM   6

Gustav   Holst and   Neil Armstrong

Edward   Wilson and Antarctica

Heroes   and Helpers!

Florence   Nightingale/Edith Cavell

Plus a Transition unit

Which days will Year 2 have PE?

We will be having PE on Mondays (alternate weeks), Tuesdays (every week) and Thursday (alternate weeks).

What are homework expectations in Year 2?

Spelling/English homework will given out on a Monday - these spellings will be tested on a Friday morning. Maths homework will be given out in the form of scrap books with activities in them. We expect both pieces of homework to be completed with parents and handed in on Friday mornings.

When do Year 2’s reading records need to be handed to the teacher?

Reading records need to be in school every day - some children will read with an adult daily, others will be less frequent. As class teachers we would love to read more with every child, we will aim to read with them as often as possible.

Will my child be going on any trips this year?

These are the trips will have planned so far...Waitrose, Holst Museum, Wilson Museum, Sports Events at ASA, Pizza Party (celebrate SATs), Three Counties Show, Literature Festival, Science Festival.

Other useful information about Year 2...We would love to have some parent helpers; if you can spare even 30 minutes we would be delighted to see you.
