The Chaplaincy Team works to help fundraise for many good causes, often with the support of the School Council. This year we raised money for Missio and attended the Missio ‘Mission Together’ Mass at St Peter’s Primary School, Gloucester. We also link with our School Fairtrade Club, selling Fair Trade goods after Sunday masses and educating people on the importance of supporting this important organisation. At Christmas, the Chaplaincy Team work with the SVP of St Gregory’s Catholic Church helping to organise Christmas shoeboxes for the needy people of Cheltenham.
So far this year, we have raised £155 for Mission Together, the children’s branch of Missio, the Pope’s official charity for overseas mission. We also gave generously for our Harvest festival contributions in October 2019, with children and staff bringing in an abundance of non-perishable food items for us to use as part of our Christmas hampers for our local community. Money sent in for our Harvest appeal totalled a fantastic £288! In addition, our staff decided to forego their usual end of term meal in place of a ‘Bring and Share’ lunch, donating the money to our Harvest charities. This now means an amazing total of £538 which will be shared between CAFOD and our parish project in Monze, Zambia. Recently, the parish received word that the recent crop failure in Monze has resulted in extreme hunger for many of the parishioners and school community who are supported by The Catholic Parish of St Gregory the Great. Hopefully, the money we give will go some way to improving life for the people there. We will remember them in our prayers.
