Collective Worship Events

As well as celebrating Mass together, our school year is filled with events when we come together, either as a whole school, as key stages or as classes, to commemorate important times in the Church’s year. These events are built into our school calendar and are shared with our school community, so that we are including everyone in the prayer life of our school and working together to develop the prayer life of the children. High attendance levels and generous offers of parental support for school Collective Worship events demonstrate the value that families place on being a part of this partnership and sharing in these special times.

Our most recent Collective Worship events include, our Lenten Penitential Service, Stations of the Cross in preparation for Holy Week, Carols by Candlelight at Christmas, our EYFS and Key Stage 1 Liturgies and our Advent Reconciliation Service. Children are given the opportunity to attend Confession during Advent and Lent, to support their spiritual preparation. In March 2023, almost one quarter of the school went to Confession, visiting four priests from our local parishes.

Our inaugural May Procession in 2022 was a very special event that was also shared with past pupils of the school. Led by our May Queen and her attendants, our statue of Mary, kindly donated to us by Prinknash Abbey, was adorned with flowers bought in by nearly all children. Hymns to Mary were sang and we read passages from Scripture that helped us to learn more about Mary and her life with Jesus. Our procession led us through the joyful mysteries and our parents shared time with children at our Mary Altar, remembering Mary’s importance as Mother of Christ and Mother of the Church.
